Workers' Representation

www.workrep.co.uk

WorkRep is a free service run independantly. WorkRep defends workers experiencing employment problems. WorkRep prefers helping workers in the first instance by way of negotiation with employers. This often brings about a settlement acceptable to both sides and is less stressful to all involved.

Accepting a settlement does not mean that the results are any inferior to those obtained by way of going to a tribunal hearing.

Successfully negotiating a settlement is obviously not always possible, not least because employers do not always wish to negotiate, or negotiate in bad faith. In such situations and where otherwise necessary, workers are represented at tribunal.

The monetary value of a case to the worker is only one factor in deciding whether to offer to represent him.

Issues that have a wider public interest are also important, where there is a noticeable trend to deprive workers of their rights.

For example, an agency worker recently complained of having worked some hours for his agency, but this money was not paid. After a number of phone calls and letters, the agency paid the worker the £15 owing.

The individual amount was small but there was a principle involved, that companies should not be allowed to exploit their powerful position relative to their workers in order to make illegal deductions from their wages.

Such deductions are subtle but widespread, and they aggregate to huge sums on a national level.

We believe that you are better off being represented at tribunal. If you however decide to represent yourself at tribunal we aim to support you with free advice throughout your case (resources permitting).

If you find the service useful you might wish to consider making a donation.
