WorkRep publishes employment law information, updates and the latest case decisions.
We advise employees and workers in general throughout their tribunal cases and also represent them at employment tribunal (ET).
In the first instance WorkRep attempts to help workers by way of negotiation with employers which can bring about a settlement acceptable to both sides that is less stressful to all involved.
Agreeing a settlement with your employer does not mean that the results are any inferior to those obtained by way of going to a tribunal hearing. The opposite can be true.
Successfully negotiating a settlement is obviously not always possible, not least because employers do not always wish to negotiate or negotiate in bad faith.
When this happens and there is a good case that can be made out we represent workers at tribunal.
Owing to an ever worsening financial situation following a decrease in donations, from 1st August 2010 WorkRep regrets to announce the introduction of a system of expenses recovery from workers being represented by us. Our advice service is unaffected. Workers seeking advice are not expected to contribute to our running costs but we would like to suggest a donation of £20 for each advice request answered.
We hope you will understand the need to support WorkRep financially in that volunteers should not feel compelled to dip into their own pockets in an attempt to keep this service afloat.
If WorkRep represents you then you will be expected to contribute to our expenses of running your case and including volunteer expenses according to the flat rate described below (including general operating costs). This will normally be a one time only payment that covers the preparation of your case, communications with the respondent (&/or his representatives) and caseworker representation at the hearing (should unforseen circumstances arise we will consult with you before asking for any further financial contributions. WorkRep will normally absorb such extra costs if possible).
The further you are from our Manchester base, the more this costs WorkRep so this will be reflected in your expected contribution. At the close of proceedings if you don't wish to donate to WorkRep you may reclaim any monies left unused.
Manchester Tribunal claimants (up to 4 days of hearings): £350If making the above contribution to our expenses will cause you hardship we will attempt to help either by way of accepting installments or a disbursement from our solidarity fund.
WorkRep does not wish workers with valid cases to remain unrepresented.
Once WorkRep has accepted your case for representation and requested your contribution please pay your contribution within 7 days.
The above contributions will be subject to revision (upwards or downwards) from time to time depending on our financial situation.
Any contributions you make will help to ensure the survival of this service. For comparison's sake, if you hire a solictor/barrister, in addition to their astronomic fees, you will pay each representative at least £200 expenses for each hearing day. So if you are represented by a barrister for 5 days his expenses will amount to £1,000 (add another £5k for fees).
